Hi Alga, I don't mean to discourage you, but pastel can be a difficult medium to mastered - at least it was for me. I try not to add more product than I have to and I work in layers. I use the lightest shades first and progress as I go along. I use Pan-Pastels and soft pastels like Rembrandt and Nupastel. I keep a sheet of paper under my hand at all time and replace it often to avoid smudges. I do the background last and use little fixative and from afar. Fixatives tend to "eat" the pastel's vibrance and details. Best advice I can give you is practice, practice and more practice. Cordially, Jay DePalma
