This acrylic painting depicts autumn at the Steenberg Vineyards in Constantia, near Cape Town, South Africa. It is one of the earliest wine growing areas of Cape Town. Founded in 1682 by a courageous woman, Catharina Ustings Ras, known at "The Widow Ras," because she had married five times, losing her husbands to disease, one being knifed on her wedding day, another being eaten by a lion, one being killed by one of the native Hottentots, and yet another being trampled by an elephant. Life was rough in the early years of the Cape, but her legacy brings us the fine wine from this vineyard!
The painting captures the light of the sun dancing on the rust and gold of the autumn leaves. The original painting is gallery wrapped, but can easily be dismantled and rolled in a heavy cardboard tube for safe and reasonable international shipment for $30.00.
