Warm lights from a country home beckon the traveler in.
Memories are good, bad, or indifferent, and many people – quite logically – prefer to focus on the good ones. The wisest people, in focusing on the good ones, recognize that memories have a definite place in our lives, but not a place so prominent that they eclipse the present.
In other words, we should not be living in our memories. Rather, our memories can enhance the living that we are presently doing.
Autumn Memories invites the viewer to step back in time to a simple country home, a landscape of quiet and peace, a sense of childhood innocence and hope. Not all of us have memories like this – many were raised in the city, far from the country path and quiet afternoons, and unfortunately there are too many adults who have childhood memories they would prefer to forget – but many of us wish that we did have memories of a country home, and from our childhood, somewhere, we look for memories of that innocent pleasure of a walk along a country lane.
Peace, quiet, tranquility – these are good elements that we look for in our day to day life, and through artwork, we can bring this peace, quiet, and tranquility into our home. Like many representational paintings, Autumn Memories invites the viewer to step into the landscape and be part of it, to stop just outside the lane and take in the warm lights of the home, to anticipate the greetings, the hot meal, the loving acceptance of the people within.
In our hurry to get things done everyday, we often forget that these elements – of peace, quiet, and tranquility – are around us right now. On a cold evening, as we race from the car to the house, why not stop for a moment and look at our home – if the lights are on and people are within, is there a hot meal waiting, greetings from people about whom we care deeply? If so, then we are creating Autumn Memories as we speak.
