Description
This original colour pencil detail of minnows against the silty stream bed of pépère’s babbling brook was today’s inspiration for my childhood memory collection which is weeks away from hanging in my kitchen nook. I was unable to find ANY silt reference photographs that look like the greenish-tannish-taupy-beige talcum silt that changed like the sand art of dessert banks hewn by the wind. HOW SAD! His brook flowed and re-waved the softer-than-soft sand, hour by hour. It was so clear, one could see EVERYthing and the dipping of a child’s toes would set about a sandstorm of blinding proportion to the guppies and minnows and snails and tiny frogs of that beautiful ecosystem. I must try to remember the wetlands of the eastern part of the brook on the other side of the huge pipe which widened and flowed more like a stream over rocks and had two miniature waterfalls. THAT is where the swamp maples, sassafras, weeping willow and river birch shaded the marshy lands where grew the skunk cabbage, jack-in-the-pulpits and different kinds of fern. It is also where mémère would stick bottles of homemade root beer or sasparilla to ferment! I must don my thinking cap to remember the details and try to do justice to the beauty of my Adventureland!
Yes, this is for you, Helen!
NOTE: Within the controversial distinction of CP “drawing” or “painting” lies artist definition. My definition: when the surface is ENTIRELY burnished, I classify as a Painting; when any exposed Paper Is part of the composition or background, I classify as a drawing. I render both.

Love this work with the delicate fish and their shadows on the sand. Thanks for taking me back to my childhood to my many hours spent at the "Little Creek" where I lived, watching the minnows and sand darters!
