This portrait painting depicts Barack Obama, the 44th president of the United States of America. Wearing a black suit and lapel pain with the stars and stripes of the American Flag and the Presidential Flag behind him, it showcases his steely gaze and distinct features. Obama held office from 2009 to 2017, winning a historic 2008 election to become the first African American elected US President. He was only the second Democratic president to serve 8 full years since Harry Truman and the second to serve two full terms since Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the 1940s.
Obama was originally from Hawaii, graduated from Harvard Law School and spent time as a constitutional law professor, Chicago community organizer and eventually an Illinois Senator before his 2008 campaign. His tenure came during a time of social and political change. While the perception of his presidency is mixed, the man himself remains a generally popular figure despite a growing political divide in the US.
This painting was completed as a Christmas gift to a relative and in no way serves as a political endorsement or commentary. It is more so a demonstration of my versatility as an artist and is a representation of a historical figure completed as a gift.
Reference for this photo was the January, 2009 official portrait of Obama by his official photographer Pete Souza, with slight modifications within my painting. The reference photo is registered by the Library of Congress as labeled for reuse in the public domain. The LOC control number is 2010647151.
