The Barn Swallow is the only swallow that really has a swallow's tail, which has a deep fork, and is long and slender. Adult birds are bluish-black above, with an iridescent sheen to their feathers; they are a rusty cinnamon and buff below, and have chestnut colored foreheads and throats. Their bills are very short.
