A boy in the country's constant companion is his dog. Duane as a boy would spend numerous hours with his dog at the ole' fishing hole. He depicted this hidden spot in this painting. Duane was raised in rural Kentucky on a non-motorized farm. His favorite recreation activity was riding his horse along with his dog throughout the adjacent hills and hollows. He has always had a keen obsession for studying nature. This provided Duane with material, knowledge and a romantic feel for scenes not normally experienced in today's modern world. While in high school Duane got involved in the only art classes available to the area at the time. Correspondence courses through the Minneapolis Art Institute, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Duane had an opportunity to study a year under Clause Hausseman in Frankfort, Germany, in that he was stationed at nearby Rhein Mein Air Force Base. After the Air Force, Duane attended the...

Dear Mr. Probus, I'm amazed at how many stories there are of this painting. My grandfather was a door-to-door salesman in Baton Rouge, LA, and I believe this painting was one of the products he offered. It hung in my grandparents' living room all of my growing up years. On visits there, I would go to sleep on the sleeper sofa staring up at this picture and dreaming I was in it. My grandparents both passed away, and when their things were divided, I asked for this painting. Now my 13-year old son has it in his room. He likes it for the same reasons I do. He was curious and looked your name up online. I'm so glad he did! I just wanted to share with you that your painting is in lots of my happy memories. Isn't that something? I wonder if you ever dreamed of the effect just one painting would have? Pretty cool.
