Your Zephyrus tote bag depicts an ad which was created in 1935 for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. The Zephyrus was a locomotive that they were promoting. The word Zephyr is from the Greek. It is the personification of the west wind and God of gentle breeze. It is also associated with Spring and flowers. Zephyrettes were train car attendants exclusively working in California Zephyr Dome cars. They wore suits with pencil skirts and pillbox hats, somewhat akin to a flight attendant, and were in service from 1936 to 1970 (except during the War years). They worked closely with the Conductor. Besides navy blue, over the years they wore brown, teal and gray suits as well as blue dresses with a white stripe down the side and green dresses with a similar orange stripe. In summer the suit was white worn with a navy blue blouse. I volunteer on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad which runs through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, just south of Cleveland, Ohio, and brought the Zephyrette to CVSR last July. I dress (the best part of the ensemble are seamed stockings!) and portray her when working in one of our Dome cars. She has been well-received by our passengers. Am including a photo of me in my brown suit holding your tote bag and Iām standing on the steps of our Silver Lariat Dome car, circa 1948. Also, I wear a Zephyr pin which you can see on my left lapel. So glad I happened to find your website while surfing the web. Your tote bag makes the ensemble complete and perfect. I also ordered one of your small zippered bags. Kind regards.

NOTE: For best image quality please select Glossy or better paper, not the default Archival Matte. The original bird painting was painted with oils, which give deep, rich tones. Better papers will give you more vibrant colors and contrast that more closely represent the original oil colors than the default choice of Archival Matte paper. So be sure to change your paper selection when ordering!
Black-capped chickadees have long been a favorite among bird lovers, and even casual bird watchers and backyard gardeners. This is probably because they are common and widespread throughout North America and are not shy or afraid of humans, so they are a very familiar visitor to gardens and backyard bird feeders and bird baths. Their charming chickadee-dee-dee song is easily recognizable and frequently heard throughout the spring and summer months. Not only that, but they are adorably cute little birds with their little round bodies, black capped heads, large eyes, and tiny beaks. They ar...
Crista is a full-time self-taught wildlife artist, having always loved to draw, color, and paint animals from a very early age. She's always cared deeply about animals, both domestic and wild. A life-long member of such organizations as the National Wildlife Federation, protection of our environment, and the preservation of endangered species, has always been a concern to her. It's only natural then, that Crista is drawn to animals and nature for her art subjects. As well has having sold many of her original paintings to happy collectors, many of Crista's artwork images have also been successfully published as fine art prints and licensed on various products. She's also illustrated three children's books about wildlife. While beauty...
