MODEL RELEASED. Bleeding eye of a 98 year old man. This is a subconjunctival haemorrhage, where bleeding has occurred beneath the conjunctiva (transparent membrane covering the eye). The condition is painless and generally heals without medical intervention. This patient also has ectropion, where the lower eyelid has turned outwards away from the eye, exposing the inner surface. This can be caused by a loss of tissue elasticity and muscle tone in old age.
