Description
As of the middle of August 2017, officials have declared the wildfire season in British Columbia the worst in its history, the second worst being in 1958. A province wide state of emergency has just been extended to Aug. 18th and now (as of Aug.18th) until Sept.1st. In many populated areas, the severity of harmful thick smoke is right off the charts when it comes to monitoring health risks. Record temperatures and no rain in the forecast for the foreseeable future continues to worsen the situation. I took this image from my property on July 31, 2017, while looking through dense smoke to capture this image of the setting sun, everything a deep red as the smoke almost blocked out the sun. Focusing directly on the sun produced this unique double sun result as the rays reflected across the camera lens. Image taken in the Lake Country District of the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, Canada.

Hi Will, this is a stunning photograph! I thought of you during the fire in Lake Country and hoping it wasn't near you! My son and his fiancé were evacuated from there during that time! LF
Will Borden replied:
Sincere thanks, Malanda! No, we weren't evacuated, so that was good. Hope things went well for your son and his fiance. We did have a fire right above us on July 8, 2017, but the water bombers got it out right away- some anxious moments!

Hi Will, fabulously taken. Believe it or not, the smoke from your fires is reaching all the way here in Calgary. Many nights and mornings I've witnessed a similar beautiful colour in the sun. The smoke is thinner by the time it reaches us so the sun is more of a lovely coral than red. Hope the fires let up soon. Anyway, nicely captured! 😊LF
Will Borden replied:
Many thanks, Doug, for your comment and continued interest- sure too bad you are getting our smoke over there! Best Regards!!

Will, even though it would be better not to have the fires this is a beauty with such richness. Nature is horrible and wonderful at the same! Wendy
