This stately blue heron was eyed on a rooftop at Dauphin Island, Alabama last spring in April 2012.
Although I have no formal training in photography, I have always enjoyed taking pictures. Photography has been a hobby for over 30 years: from the simplicity of a tele-instamatic camera, to learning the intricacies of the more challenging 35mm. I explored 35mm low light photography at Mardi Gras parades with my dad's old Argus camera which had no light attachment. Also used it on vacations, still getting by without any light attachment - the camera was so old an attachment could no longer be purchased for it, if it in deed was ever available. Later, I purchased a Yashica 35GSN and had the ability to use external lighting with it. Eventually I added an APS camera to the mix and in recent years have gone digital. I have truly enjoyed the...

Marian I love all your blue heron pix (well that's natural, becauseI love blue heron's) -- but this one I especially love, because in my mind's eye, I can see him sliding down that corrugated roof, and never losing his composure while he does it, taking to the air with a great flap of his wings, just as he slides off the bottom of the roof!
