Blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus) fluking (lifting its tail) as it dives. Barnacles are seen along the trailing edge of the tail. Whales dive to feed, coming to the surface for air. The blue whale is the world's largest animal and can reach lengths of 27 metres and weigh 120 tonnes. It feeds on small crustaceans, such as krill. Photographed in the Gulf of California.
