The lava keeps flowing through lava tubes from the Puʻuʻōʻō eruption into the sea several miles south. Occasionally lava will break through to the surface and provide watchers with a spectacular show. Temperatures where the lava is near the surface can be unbearably hot as the lava is approxiamtely 2,000° f.
