Description
Taking the passenger ferry to Bald Head Island, which is the southernmost of North Carolina's cape islands and is located at the confluence of the Cape Fear River and Atlantic Ocean, it didn't look too good for sunset. It was quite hazy with no sun to be seen. But at least it wasn't raining as the weather forecast had predicted. So I could hardly believe it, when the sun broke though the clouds and lit up the whole sky right around sunset.
There are no cars on the island the only way to get around is walk, rent a bike or golf cart. This wooden bridge over the marsh connects the harbor area with the community, which as far as I could tell are mainly vacation rentals, but there's also a chapel, post office and, of course, North Carolina's oldest lighthouse Old Baldy.
