Thank you very much!

fantastic!

Thank you Marta.

good job

Hey this is great and we're not located very far from each other (relatively). Please do more of this style. I think it's spectacular!

I am getting back into watercolors and inks, after my little foray into acrylics. I like the glazing abilities of watercolors and will probably be doing work similar in style to this in the not to distant future.

Thanks for the praise everyone! I find that when I explore a mythic figure, I have to understand it in an abstract form first, before I can do anything representational. I found the whirling energy of the galaxy with all the fiery suns and stars contained within it a perfect analogy for Brigid the goddess of fire, poetry and healing. I used the form the Whirpool galaxy as a jumping off point, but then let the meditations of Brigid guide my hand.

very good work

I have always loved galaxies and have used them in a few of my paintings. Your forms give me a new view on this type of flow and energy. I love the dark veins that delineate the brighter areas. Excellent work and very captivating.

Thanks! This painting was labor intensive because of the glazing technique, but the image kind of painted itself.

Artist's Description

Please note: the watermark "Fine Art America" which appears on the image will not be on the final purchased print. As one of the most popular goddesses worshiped by the Celts, she continues to be a favorite among Christians as many of her stories and myths survived in the persona of Saint Brigid. She was the goddess of all things perceived to be of relatively high dimensions such as high-rising flames, highlands, hill-forts and upland areas; and of activities and states conceived as psychologically lofty and elevated, such as wisdom, excellence, perfection, high intelligence, poetic eloquence, craftsmanship (especially blacksmithing), healing ability, druidic knowledge and skill in warfare. An object connected to the goddess called Brigid's Cross, made of rushes or straw, and woven into a kind of star or cross shape. It was traditionally believed that a Brigid's Cross protected the house from fire and evil. Brigid's crosses are associated with Brigid of Kildare, who is venerated as on...

Do'an Prajna - Antony Galbraith

I am a Zen Buddhist monk, (dharma name: Rev. Do'an Prajna) part of the Five Mountain Zen Order and in addition to teaching meditation and holding Zen services, I create art. The purchase of prints here help support my ability to live and teach as a monk. Thank you for your consideration. My paintings and drawings explore the natural world and examines ancient mythologies, while seeking to remove the artificial barrier humans have created to separate us from nature. It is my goal to contribute toward creating a new mythic tradition that doesn't ignore the myriad non-human life-forms that have the right to exist with dignity on earth. I also spin yarn and weave. My fiber work is a practice in meditation and contemplation. My goal is...
