Description
Cape Meares Lighthouse in Oregon is a squatty runt, when compared with its taller relatives. However, that does not mean much: its beam still broadcasts 20 plus nautical miles out to sea. It sits on a high bluff that more than compensates for the typical height of a lighthouse.
Vandals nearly destroyed the Fresnel lens shooting several of the bull’s eye magnifiers out of the beautiful nautical glass. Damages to the Fresnel lens were estimated at $500,000. It cannot be built again, at any cost. Fresnel lenses were manufactured in France more than 100 years ago. The first order lens at Cape Meares was originally put in place on December 23rd of 1889 and made its public entrance on January 1, 1890.
Cape Meares was automated in April 1963 and was put in trust of the Tillamook County, Oregon.
Through the years many changes have occurred with the lighthouse and its buildings. It is now under the authority of Friends of Cape Meare Lighthouse.
I am a digital artist who paints in the traditional sense: just with non-traditional tools. Every piece of art in my gallery is original; not scanned; not a photograph. Using only the computer mouse, I draw every line, add every bit of shading, highlights, blending, and refining to finish a piece. All of the art is started on a blank white page in Microsoft Paintbrush. The finishing process is done using Adobe Photoshop Elements.
The viewer is respectfully reminded all of my works are copyright protected and © appears on each piece together with my signature. Every piece is printed using only the finest of professional materials available, by a professional printing house. Rigorous quality control is employed to guarantee a satisfactory work of fine art.
Open copies are now available on Fine Art America with Prints on Demand.
