Great canvas and framing. A decent shipping time, and EXCEPTIONAL safe packaging. Just an appropriate image for my viewing/listening room. Just took the speaker grills off for this photo.
Artist's Description
I don't know why I have always wanted to paint a case latch but I finally found a suitable candidate. This one is from a very old trumpet case so it immediately appealed to me. I painted this with Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The texture of the paper and these unique paints create some amazing textures in the piece. The original is 14"x10.25" in size.

The blues, greens, and golds with the magic touch of your brush make this painting stand out. Reminds me of my first travel suitcase.

Diane Dean
Thanks Ken so much for your comment on my Radio Days painting. I really appreciate it. Someday you need to tell me how you manage to make things look like they have so much sunlight in them. Thanks again. Diane
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Diane! Very nice of you! As for the light, I just over-accentuate the shadows and try to leave the whites of the paper thereby increasing the overall contrast of the painting.
Cathie Tyler
I like. Very cool.;-)
Ken Powers replied:
Thanks Cathie! This is from an old trumpet case from the 1890's.

I really love the colors in this piece. And I like everything Kip had to say - sure does bring back alot of memories of the push-button age.
Joni Dipirro
Thanks for the compliment, I see you like to paint textures as well. Good job. Joni

Beautiful color handling of the pigments; and a familiar subject for many of us with our band instruments or suitcases or brief cases, sliding that button releasing the spring-loaded tab, and the satisfying ca-thunk as the tab flew back out of the way. Ahhh, the push-button age !! Maybe the inventor of that patent became a millionaire a hundred years ago, or whenever it was invented -- and was it even American, or maybe it was European -- I certainly grew up with them ! Nice work and good subject for, I suppose, an invention so ubiquitous we just don't notice them.
