Chaos and order

Often, I'm asked to interpret the meaning of Chaos and Order. I've always been reluctant to interpret my art because I believe that the true definition of an image exists only in the set of references from which the viewer draws. I think the greatest gift an artist can offer, is to allow the individual viewer to embrace whatever personal meaning is derived from a particular piece of art, therefore, as an artist, interpreting a piece would possibly deprive the viewer of personal insight and reference. Nonetheless, I will say that life's experiences and meanings exist in "opposites". Good or bad, Left or Right, Up or Down, etc... These constructs exist only because their opposite is true. In other words ...You can't define anything in terms of itself...You have to use something other than "it" to describe "it". Chess, for example, is an exercise in opposites. Moves are made to counter (appose) an opponent's move. By "definition" an idea can't be conveyed without understanding its opposite. This piece hints at unseen forces in the physical realm as well, such as "Opposing Elites" who command resources that manipulate and move the masses at will. Chaos and order is simply an exercise in exploring religion as it applies to the human condition of opposites. -ML. Walker-
