Charge of the 20th Maine
Battle of Gettysburg
Little Round Top
July 2, 1863
Amidst a desperate and sometimes hand-to-hand struggle to maintain their crucial position on the extreme left flank of the Union line on Little Round Top; the 20th Maine Regiment had run so low on ammunition that they were unable to withstand another assault. Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain ordered his men to fix bayonets and charge down the rocky slope of Little Round Top into the faces of the 15th Alabama commanded by William C. Oates. This artwork captures the immortal charge here with uncompromising attention to detail.
