Richard, I am sure that you brother Charles was overwhelmed by this painting. More power to you! This is wonderful portrait and the expression on Charles' face is so bright and cheerful. In my opinion, there is no greater honor (honour) than for a loved one to paint one's portrait. This is a great tribute to your brother. Congratulations to him on his achievements... Bravo. Fierce artwork! Item looked exactly as pictured and nothing was distorted. Very vibrant rich colors! I bought it as a birthday present for someone and they loved it! Only issue is it was so awesome I wanted to keep it for myself!

Although the edges of the design was a bit blurry it was still a really nice tote bag for the beach.

I was very disappointed as the picture on the front of the bag has a black background but the lining on all of these bags is grey. It looks so dreadful I’m sure it even looks worse with a light or pastel coloured cover. As you use it this grey keeps showing giving it a cheap look. it would be so much better without lining if grey is the best you can do. Also the fabric is too soft and droops if the bag isn’t full. So you end up having a droopy bag with grey lining showing. It would be so much better to make this style in the fabric you use in the standard tote. It keeps its shape and the image on this fabric is much clearer. Also it doesn’t need to be lined.

Artist's Description

In 2003, my brother, Charles, was awarded a Doctorate of Law (LLD) by Cambridge University. This is one of the highest degrees awarded by the University. The whole family attended and we took numerous photographs, several of which were used as references for this large portrait, which now hangs in his home in Cambridge. Charles is an Emeritus Fellow of Downing College and a Bencher of Lincoln's Inn. He joined Falcon Chambers in London in 2001, after completing two periods of office as a Law Commissioner and before that having been a member of the law faculty at Cambridge University.

About Richard Harpum

Award-winning artist, Richard Harpum, paints in a realist style, paying meticulous attention to detail. His medium of choice is acrylics on canvas or board but he also uses oils and paints watercolour florals. Richard's primary focus is landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes and gardens but he also paints portraits, still lifes and florals. The effective use of light is a key ingredient to all of Richards works and he spends a great deal of time before starting a painting in selecting a composition that provides both drama and contrast. Born in Bromley, England, in 1951, Richard has had a passion for drawing and painting from a very young age. As a youngster, he was always drawing and became a prolific painter after he received an...
