Description
The Chicago Cultural Center Tiffany Dome in this photograph is located in the Preston Bradley Hall of the old Chicago Library. The dome was designed by J.A. Holtzer and is considered the largest Tiffany glass dome in the world. The translucent dome is roughly 38 feet in diameter and made of Tiffany Favrile glass which is cut in the shape of fish scales. If you look closely you will also see signs of the zodiac at the top of the dome. The dome is now lighted electrically, but at the time of its construction it was illuminated by sunlight. At the base of the dome you will see the following quote:
Books are the legacies that a great genius leaves to mankind which are delivered down from generation to generation as presents to the posterity of those who are yet born.
-Addison
All proceeds of purchases will be donated to Cornerstone Community Outreach in Chicago, IL in honor of photographer Richard Cleis, 1965-2021.
