Description
The Clinker was a type of Cog, a typical Medieval Ship, with just one large square sail and a small bowsprit, and raised platform for archers. The fully decked, reinforced hull y beams was clinker-built (like Scandinavian ships), hence the name, because the planks overlap (lapstrake). This made for a more sturdier construction, able to resist the north sea gales. Unlike the Nava, a Mediterranean ship which was carvel-built, the planks were just joined together with a method not far away from the Antique mortise and tenon technique. This made for lighter and streamlined hulls, faster but weaker ships.
