The picture was all I expected

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS in red, (expensive taste, huh!) is my son's favorite car. This was a gift for his tenth birthday. He placed it on his bookshelf next to his computer, where it can be seen from his bed and desk. Once received, I was somewhat skeptical of my chosen size. But, with a frame I painted red to match the car, it turned out great. The quality of the print is awesome! Thank you!

Artist's Description

Fugitive Monuments The only constant in life is change. We grow old and die, buildings and monuments crumble to dust. Time goes by and progress marches on, but, as our society evolves are we improving or regressing? As a global community we have lost our connection with nature in our race to consume. As a result our communities are overrun with violence, pollution, and cultural and spiritual degradation. My paintings are abstractions of this concrete jungle. Combinations of yin and yang, nature and technology, the past and the present painted in the same space. I look back to ancient man for inspiration, sampling images from places such as Africa, India, Native America, and China. My appropriation from these cultures is a sensitive one, for me these forms are metaphors for utopia. The paintings are abstractions of language, nature, urban landscape, technology, and the media. Compositions are built around a birds eye view of a natural Eden overlapped and encroached upon by forms that...

About Monica James

Biography I grew up watching science fiction movies as an enjoyable family pastime. Favorites such as Forbidden Planet, Dune, 2001, and Alien fascinated me visually. I was drawn to the images of the stars, planets, galaxies, robotics, circuitry, and technology. I wondered what was beyond our mundane world and what the future would hold for mankind. This element of science, both fiction and fact influences the abstractions in my work today. It is through the perspective of modern technology that history is viewed in my paintings. I was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, and raised between two cities, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Growing up science, music, and art were a part of the household. I have many fond memories of trips to the...
