Idaho/Montana border, Continental Divide in Beaverhead Range. Howard created this image on traditional medium format film.
I hiked the Idaho and Montana section of the Continental Divide Trail on assignment to produce a guide and coffee book for this section of the trail. The distance was roughly 1200 miles and along the way, I found many places that I wanted to return to during different seasons and times to work on creating images of these landscapes. This ridge at treeline is an example. The limber pine trees and old stumps at this altitude have a lot of character and the flowing terrain gives a feeling of distance.
