Description
Cumulus cloud covering the sun. Forming at low altitudes (normally below 2000 metres), cumulus clouds consist of water droplets which have condensed after being pushed up on thermals (rising columns of warm air). They often appear at cold fronts, where advancing cold air forces warm air upwards. This cloud is blocking the sun, leaving its underside a dark grey whilst, in contrast, the edge catches the light and exhibits a 'silver lining'. Photographed in north Finland.
