I love the artist and usually purchase her originals or prints and have been extremely satisfied with them, but this original and some others were sold so I purchased cards to frame. I have to comment that this card was a little dark and if it could be lightened a little, it would better represent the artwork. The artist is one of my favorites.

About Steven Heyen
Steven Heyen was born in Papua New Guinea and grew up all around the world, including Fiji, Kenya, Indonesia and Malaysia. Drawing was his principal form of entertainment - usually ships, aircraft, animals and soldiers. He began painting in oil paints in his early teens and continued painting through the eighties and nineties, focusing mainly on wildlife and aviation subjects. In 2000 Steven decided to focus purely on landscape art for a few years. Curiously, the years spent in this genre enhanced his aviation art, which he continues to sell to a ready global market. Today he splits his painting load between landscape and aviation art. This site is dedicated to his aviation work, which focuses primarily on World War 1 & 2 subjects....

early in the war 42 and 43 when 25 missions were required before rotation home the average life of a B-17 crew was twelve missions with 10 men going down with each and many of these missions were flown depending on the winds aloft at about 150 to 170 MPH, Some will tell you that they had a top speed of 300, but that was only going straight down. These were incredible young men 18 to maybe 23 and realized they were on a suicidal path , but went anyway. Often throwing up from fear before boarding the bomber but they went anyway and never were turned back by enemy action. recalled sometimes by weather but never by losses of up to 60 bombers and 600 men.

I see the lead bomber has the chin turret, but the olive drab paint of F series rather than the G. I am not saying this is incorrect as the chin turret may have been introduced on the late Fs. However It would be a first for me,
