At daybreak, the sun casts an orange glow across the horizon. A small gray cloud bank moves in from the right side, just above the horizon, breaking the golden ball into two pieces. For the width of the image, the sun's light casts its muted colors, the intensity diminishing as it spreads.
The glow is reflected across the calm gray waves of low tide. But in the foreground, the beach is dark; the sun's rays are not strong enough yet to touch the sand
The soft colors come together on the left side of the image, where beach, water, and sky touch. As they spread across the wide scene, the wedge of water grows wider, its reflective lightness taking over the dark expanse of sand.
I've always loved looking at nature, drifting along with the ever-changing clouds, stopping to smell the roses. God's creation gives an abundant and ever changing variety of subjects for me to capture. I enjoy photographing all of nature, from the wide vistas of mountains and valleys, right down to spiders, butterflies, and dewdrops. I bought my first camera, a Canon AE-1, in 1979, and practiced and experimented and asked questions. I still ask questions and read blogs; but I've never taken a formal course or workshop. I switched to digital in 2000, which allows more experimenting, with instant feedback, so I can correct a shot immediately. My current camera is a Nikon D-90, with a 28-300 and a macro.
