Dead Sea scroll fragment. These scrolls, found in caves between 1947 and 1979 on the north-western shore of the Dead Sea, include some of the earliest surviving biblical documents. This fragment is known as the 'Habakkuk Commentary', the Pesher Habakkuk, or 1QpHab. It is a commentary on a biblical prophecy. Written in Herodian script (the language used at the time of King Herod), it dates to the early 1st century AD. Among the first of the original scrolls to be discovered, it is one of the best-preserved and most heavily studied. The scroll consists of leather bound with linen thread.
