This I see as the artists vision of his subject, or possibly, the artist in the process of visualizing his subject (it could be a self-portrait). The "degenerate" aspect is that the artist becomes one with his subject, and that we are able to see within that subject not just its surface, ...or we see within the artist how he is merged with the subject. In the upper right is a tilted image of a bay with aurora lights - this suggests to me that it is a self-portrait, since the subject is an animal not a scene. But then again it could be none of these... viewer's choice and imagination prevails!
Visual Art, what's it for? Decoration? Maybe, if we're lucky, to remind us how things seemed to us when we were children, -new, vivid, and truly astonishing. It's about renewal, learning to see again in the grinding everyday world. "Familiarity breeds contempt", the saying goes, -unfamiliar perspectives regenerate our sense of beauty... The great thing about abstracts is that the final act of interpretation lies with the viewer, creating a very personal relationship with the image based on their emotional state. And they do look good on a wall too. Thanks to Beth Orton, Anais Mitchell, Laura Gibson, Annie Lennox, Lisa Ekdahl, Kat Flint, Laura Marling, Hayley Westenra and others, for the rhythms that help me reconnect with the...

The more i look at this picture the more i think of it a the silhouette of an animal . top area is the head and then follows the body .. well thats my imagination :) Well done :) v/f 15
Richard Thomas replied:
That's pretty much how I see it - either it's an animal inspiring the artist's work, or possibly it's the artist himself. In either case the "degenerate" part is that we see inside the subject, not just the surface of it. Thanks very much, Sotiris!
