The Dismembered Woman is a commissioned Holy Woman Icon painted to portray the Levite's concubine who was sacrificed and dismembered in Judges 19. This horrific tale reminds us of the injustice done to women's bodies. Since she was nameless in scripture, painting her is one way of remembering her and all women who have been victimized by violence.
