This is a rough sketch Dawn made after coming in from morning feeding, when she and her husband Juel laughed with joy to see the neighborhood miniature donkey, Jasper, frolicking in the snow. He ran and ran all over the pasture bucking, kicking and braying! He'd run up to Dawn, grab the piece of cake (horse treat) she offered, whirl around, kick, buck, and dash off again as fast as his little legs would go! He seemed to be wearing a huge smile the whole time!
I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers. My artwork consists of all these things and more...

Dawn, I am so happy that other people can also experience the joys of personalities in animals. I think they are the Greatest thing that God created. They are not afraid to show their joy, love, happiness and they have so much fun. I really would like to see him someday. He seems like quite a character.

This is hilarious!~I know this guy Jasper, a fat little thing who loves the company of your horses. The sketch gives the feeling of the guy, as well as the environment, which you've depicted so wonderfully here. I love what you also did with the plant life, snow, and hills, because they're there and beautiful, but don't detract from the main subject. What a cut-up! Love this!
