I did this painting as a study with my watercolor students at the East Boulder Senior Center. When asked how I paint "clumps of plants" in a garden, I had to think about it. I isolate the shapes and then paint each shape almost as a little painting within itself, with it's own texture and color scheme. I think of each plant as a rounded ball shape, putting the shadow on the bottom and the light on the top. I used lots of salt, saran wrap, and resist in this piece. The colors turned out so brightly that it looks like someone plugged it in!
