Description
Emission nebula NGC 2327, optical image. NGC 2327 glows pink as the hydrogen gas in this emission nebula is ionised by radiation from hot young stars within it. A trail of dense dust (a dark nebula filament) leads from left towards the bright central star SAO 152320. This nebula forms the head of a larger nebula known as the Seagull nebula. The wings are formed by the nebula IC 2177 (not seen). This nebula lies around 1800 light years away on the border between the constellations Monoceros and Canis Major.
