I love this and it's situated behind me a little in my office. When I turn towards it, I'm reminded that there is always light and colour and to remember my roots. Artist's Description
Entanglements is a collage I began with four slender bamboo reeds tied together with raffia and leather. Everything is built on that four reed frame. I added brush, branches, thorned rose stems, leaves, a sunflower center, and colored beads. It is my first collage of this type.
About Lisabeth Billingsley
I graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, and worked in the fashion business for the next twenty-five years. I learned color, texture, balance and composition from my jobs. I spent two years in Haiti , teaching scuba diving and immersing myself in the exotic culture of the Island. I learned from the unschooled Haitian painters who had incredible talent and no money. I have collected some wonderful Haitian art. When I moved from New York to a farmhouse in Lyme I planted flower gardens from seeds. Unwilling to see the flowers die, I pressed them, using everything from the Oxford Dictionary to wooden screw presses and a microwave press. I used the pressed flowers to create pictures.
