Ermine, or Weasels, have befriended Dawn often throughout her life. Sometimes one will follow her on her hikes up the draw. They raise their young in the woodpile next to the cabin, and they play and cavort outside her windows all times of the year. She laughs to see them diving into drifts, sometimes after prey, and sometimes just pretending.
I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers. My artwork consists of all these things and more...
