About Daniel Dempster
For more than thirty years Daniel Dempster has roamed the backroads and wild places of America seeking out and capturing the beauty of this wonderful land. Whether he is photographing the powerful thoroughbreds of Kentucky as they thunder down the stretch at Churchill Downs or roaming a stark and rugged Maine coastline searching for the perfect combination of composition and light, he is at home with a camera in his hand. What started as a passionate hobby in 1980 soon blossomed into a full-time career. In 1988 Daniel had four images featured in the Kentucky Derby Museum. When did you take this picture? I am going to the OBX in June. Has the light restoration been completed and is it open for climbing yet?
Daniel Dempster replied:
Actually this was shot around 2001 or 2002 while I was working on the book Lighthouses of the South. It was shot before I switched to digital. The camera was a Mamiya 645 Pro and the film I used was Velvia 50.

The blue tones and fog sure creates a great mood photo! v/f
Daniel Dempster replied:
Thank you Robert. I've been places where there were bigger mosquitoes but Bodie Island won the prize for the most. I was miserable shooting this.
