Description
Eyes Of Wisdom Modern Art By Deborah Juodaitis
Based On The Philosophy of "Adequatte Wisdom" by Ronald Smolin
An organizational "map" of the world and human civilization, this work discusses a wide variety of issues, including: knowing one's place in the universe; determinism and free will; the infinite universe; what is personality?; the trend towards synergy; atheism and agnosticism; compassion and punishment; the role of sexuality; death--the ultimate challenge; and is there meaning to existence?
Part 1: The Essentials
The essays in Part One focus on the approaches we can
take to create an overview of the various parts of existence,
including forms, processes and ideas; the modes of determinism,
chance, design, free will and synergy; and the division
of the world into the physical, biological, personal and
social realms. There are twelve variables of existence that
are shown to create an interrelationship that accounts for
our experiences and knowledge. The influence of recurring
forms, processes and ideas is discussed. Also, there are essays
discussing the problems we face in trying to gain a
comprehensive view of life and the cosmos, as well as a discussion
of the status of the human condition.
ESSAYS:

Review of book from KIRKUS REVIEWS:
February 21, 2012
"An encyclopedia-dictionary hybrid that teaches readers about the world and their own existence. Smolin takes the reader on a vast journey as he goes through the annals of knowledge. He starts with a logical breakdown of the meta-aspects of existenceform, process and idea, or 'tools,' as he puts itfor understanding the varying aspects of existence. Smolin then moves through lists and examples of these forms and processes. Using this as his extended introduction, he then turns his attention toward many large-scale questions, such as free will, mysticism and the origin of the universe.
"He systematically goes through the tangible worldfrom quarks to galaxiesbefore turning to humans and their biological and psychological makeup. But Smolin doesnt stop there. After discussing the soul and religion, he turns to a potpourri of topics that include everything from war to orgasms. For all the immensity of topics covered, the writing is fairly easygoing. And he doesn't present fluff either, making it quite accessible for a book dealing so heavily in scientific concepts.
"With each topic given a separate chapter and most chapters stretching no more than a page or two, Smolins approach is to provide the reader with basic facts and ideas. It would be very easy, due to the nature of many of the topics, for the author to give skewed, opinionated views, but more often than not he succeeds in steering clear of giving his personal opinion, presenting instead a wide collection of possibilities. Although the book might struggle to find its appropriate targeted audience, the reader should find it helpful for not only presenting and outlining thoughts on various topics, but seeing where they fit into the larger structure of knowledge."
Book review from San Francisco Book Review
Rating 4.5 out of 5
"Adequate Wisdom: Essays on the Nature of Existence is an exhaustive collection of philosophical viewpoints presented for a layman. Smolin presents the general reader with an overview of essays that discuss existence, our cosmos, and the many different viewpoints held by people. The simplistic wording by Smolin makes these essays easy to comprehend and gives the general reader a framework to build a better understanding of the nature of existence.
"The essays are short but concise. Covering a wide range of diverse subject matter, the essays can be read alone or as a whole. There is a great deal of information covered by Smolin, and he does an exceptional job organizing, arranging, and presenting the vast research that is clearly evident as you read through this book. Smolin goes into great depth exploring the nature of forms and processes, which provides the background necessary to discuss the myriad of subject matter contained in this book. The book is comprised of eight parts: Essentials, Questions and Ideas, Physical Existence, Biological & Human Existence, Trends & Other Matters, God & Religion, Humanity and Final Thoughts. 'We can begin to piece together the varied components of existence, creating a clearer understanding of how the world works and then proposing guidelines to help us make wise decisions and lead meaningful lives.'
"Smolin additionally includes some ideas based upon new research, for which further scrutiny and examination is warranted. 'The obvious motif of this work is to embrace all components of the world and to suggest that everything is contingent upon everything else, while paradoxically allowing forms and processes to express themselves individually.' Most of the discussions cover scientific information and philosophical ideas, whereas, some of the discussions get a little more personal speaking about sexuality, self-control, religion, and state. While I may not agree with all of the contentions of the author, Smolin presents his work in a well-organized and classy form that leaves the reader open to explore his ideas.
"Smolins essays cover diverse fields of life, philosophy, cosmology, sociology and psychology. 'A key idea of adequate wisdom is the apparent duality between synergy and individualism, whereby virtually every form has its own function and structure while at the same time becoming part of another, greater structure.' It is well written and easy to understand. A worthwhile read for those have interest in this subject matter." (February 24, 2012)

WHAT'S YOUR PERSPECTIVE?
Each one of us, as mature adults, has developed an outlook on life which in most cases dominates our world view.
The combination of personality traits, character and life experiences leads us into molds out of which come our opinions and beliefs. There are those whose ideas are inflexible and thus reject alternative viewpoints. Academic specialists can also show signs of inflexibility.
Those who hold rigid beliefs pose a problem for the development of an adequate wisdom, which cries out for the generalist in society, one who will look at all ideas with an open mind and observe the integration of all major structures, events and ideas. The specialists recognize the individuality of existence (one-half truth) but often skirt the issue of a holistic view of the world (the other half-truth).
Adequate wisdom holds a comprehensive perspective of existence by integrating the parts and the wholes. It allows
us to observe the specialized functions of things amidst the synergistic aggregation of them.
But, where are the generalists?

AN ORGANIZATIONAL MAP OF EXISTENCE
In writing this work, I wanted to construct an overview of the universe and humanity and to offer a condensed overview of all the major factors that comprise existence, especially for non-specialists. I could not have attempted such a task without the brilliance of thinkers both past and present who have provided me with a wealth of thoughts or idea systems to guide me through my presentation.
I have added a few of my own ideas and speculations, which represent more often than not an organizational map of existence. By using form, process and idea I believe I have made it a bit simpler to grasp the essence of the world. These three cardinal tools allow us to branch out and search for that which influences everything else, all leading to the formation of a workable wisdom that can guide us towards the evolution of a well managed civilization.
This overview procedure is meant to simplify and codify existence in order to develop an adequate wisdom of the universe and humanity. It should be quite obvious that this work is an early attempt at such a workable wisdom. But even though not a specialist, I nonetheless took the task to heart and tried my best to show how the universe and we are interrelated in more than just the obvious ways. That is, there remains an inexorable relationship among the cardinal parts of the world which leads to an holistic and synergistic trend of evolution.

MORE ON IDEAS
The book often indicates that ideas result from the interconnections between form and process. And they do. But we should also emphasize that ideas generated by free will and design create new forms and processes; so that all three tools are truly linked together.
.Written for the general reader, the book provides a broad overview of the structures, events and ideas in the world with the goal of achieving an adequate (workable) understanding of the cosmos and the human condition.
I think every one should read the book Adequate Wisdom
