Description
Diving from great heights to strike its prey, the Peregrine falcon has been known to reach speeds of about 200 miles per hour. This amazing raptor is regarded by falconers and biologists as the most spectacular of all the birds of prey. Despite being found in almost six continents, the Peregrine is scarce in most habitats. In the mid-20th century, the effects of DDT and other pesticides nearly forced the species into extinction. The Peregrine falcon was successfully reintroduced to several areas in North America and the current population is stable and increasing.
