Description
Fjallsjokull is an outlet glacier that originates from Vatnajokull which is the largest ice cap in Iceland and Europe. The glacier provides a beautiful landscape of blue ice, white snow and veins of black ash.
Fjallsjokull extends to the surface of Fjallsarlon Iceberg Lagoon. Icebergs break away from the glacier tongue and float on the surface of the lagoon. Fjallsarlon is not connected to the sea, so the icebergs remain on the lagoon until they melt.
Glaciers and ice caps cover approximately 11 percent of the land area of Iceland. Glacier hiking, snowmobile tours, ice climbing and visits to ice caves are some of the most popular ways to experience Iceland's glaciers.
