Description
The seaside square in Amalfi Italy is home to a famous Statue of Flavio Gioia, the possible inventor of the sailor's compass. A statue of Gioia (Statua di Flavio Gioia) can be found in the centre of the round-about by the Amalfi seaside. Flavio Gioja or Gioia (c. 1300) was an imaginary Italian mariner and inventor, who never, in fact, existed.
