This is the third in my series called "Ballet des Fleurs." So far, it is my personal favorite. I wish you could see the original; the photo doesn't do it justice. I started this en plein air in my art mentor's back yard in Boulder, Colorado in the Club Tuesday Group. I later finished it in my studio. It is highlighted with gold paint. While painting plein air, I used my brushes, and then, what seems totally typical of me now, I finished it both with brushes and palette knives. Of Colorado's many beautiful flowers, the poppies really seem to enthrall me most. There is a large area of poppies located on a trail in Chautauqua Park in Boulder. It is almost magical. I've got many, many pictures of poppies from there. I've been wanting to do a painting of poppies for quite sometime now, so I am pleased I finally accomplished that goal. This painting now belongs in the private collection of a dear sister. She very generously paid some of my way on a fabulous trip to Alaska. This poppy painting is one she had admired a lot, so I gifted it to her.
