Description
The Culver Black Horse Troop became a budding Culver tradition in May of 1897 when it made its first formal appearance serving as the honor guard for Indiana's Governor James Mount. Since that time, the Black Horse Troop has carried on the tradition for more that a hundred years by escorting emperors, presidents, kings, and queens.
One of the most inspiring moments of any Presidential Inaugural Parade, is to watch Culver's Black Horse Troop coming down Pennsylvania Avenue with each mounted cadet carrying the nation's flag.
This watercolor portrays a mounted cadet galloping with the nation's colors across the Culver Academy parade grounds. Note, the artist has signed her name to the watercolor using the Russian alphabet.
