Description
Forest 32-cylinder aviation engine. 19th-century illustration of the aviation engine proposed in 1888 by French engineer Fernand Forest (1851-1914). This engine was designed to have four rings of eight radial cylinders (a total of 32 cylinders). At the time, such engines would have been used to power propellers on balloons and airships. Artwork from 'Moteurs' (1911) by French civil engineer Max de Nansouty (1854-1913), part of the 'Les merveilles de la science' series of 1867-1891 by Louis Figuier.
