Description
This ghost bat (Macroderma gigas) lives in Wildlife Sydney sanctuary in Darling Harbour. This section is so dark then most times you don't get to even see him, my 1st visit I coudnt even find him.
The ghost bat is Australia’s largest micro-bat and he is another endangered Australian. Pale grey or light brown fur with a lighter belly, with more inland populations tending to be almost white.
He is Australia’s only carnivorous bat that eats large insects, reptiles, frogs, birds, small mammals and, sometimes, other bat species. Much of his prey is captured on the ground.
Populations are under threat due to changes in habitat and destruction of caves and mine shafts that the bats live in.
Ghost bats occur in tropical regions in Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia, but is extinct in central Australia.
