Description
Photo manipulation with Photoshop
A photo of me when I was still a girl disguised as a gypsy.
From this time comes my love for the gypsies
I like the aesthetics of the Gypsies!! They are so free in colors, textures and accessoriesbut I am deeply saddened by the discrimination they experience.
Gypsies have long been among the most mysterious, exotic peoples on earth. They have been described as a race of nomads, who have no real home. Gypsies do have their own language, Romani, and they identify themselves as Romani people.
The Romani people, have suffered oppression virtually everywhere they have gone. Like the Jews, Gypsies were singled out by the Nazis for racial persecution and annihilation. They were nonpersons, of foreign blood, labor-shy, and as such were termed asocials

This has a vintage quality using a modern technique. I was intrigued that the portrait is of you as a child. Indeed, the gypsies have not deserved the unfair discrimination they have endured over so many years. Live and let live! Thank you for both the art and the description. like/f

You used the photomanipulation to wonderful effect here! My Grandfather used to call my grandmother a Gypsy; I thought because she loved to take whatever ride or trip was offered. Then through the years I became conscious of the rumors and comments about her 'dark skin'....and that gorgeous BLACK hair that stayed with her except near her face for all her days. When we visited Bayeuth in Germany to see the mill of my gggrandparents, the current family members showed me the harness and bit from the Gypsy cart my ggrandfather came in! So I learned eveuntually about the discrimination you note, Magdelens/ And I never did get the black hair I coveted all life. I enjoyed this artwork from several viewpoints!

Marvelous technique... it's like a memory that isn't quite clear, a softer look at the past. vf

Madalena, Do I see a yearning in this portrait to join them? I think that the freedom of the lifestyle, the music, the colorful dress would indeed be difficult to resist. Beautiful portrait! voted
