GLADES AFTERGLOW was painted in late June, 2010 by Riley Geddings, a noted Florida Landscape Artist.
Riley has chosen the twilight hours shortly after sunset in order to portray this very interesting and somewhat rare scene. Let us first address the firmament -
the sky - the heavens, where in the top right-hand corner I espy a few emerging stars in the approaching night sky.
Those beautiful clouds are the aftermath of a heavy shower just before sunset. As the day tranforms into night, we are priviledged to observe a ritual of certain wildlife taking place as it has for thousands of years ... the nocturnal
wildlife changes shifts with the daylight creatures. The sun has just now set, leaving behind a pastel afterglow, against which is a dark - almost black - silhouette of a Great White Heron, gliding on silent wings in search of its roost for the night.
