Description
Gliese 667 triple-star system. Optical image of the sky around the triple-star system Gliese 667. The bright point at centre is the stars Gliese 667 A and B, the two main components of the system. Gliese 667C, the third component, is visible as a bright star very close to and just under A and B. The very subtle wobbles of Gliese 667C, measured with high precision spectrographs, reveals it is surrounded by a full planetary system, with up to seven planets. A record-breaking three planets in this system are super-Earths, lying in the habitable zone around the star, where liquid water could exist, making them possible candidates for the presence of life. This is the first system found with a fully packed habitable zone. Also seen here are the NGC 6357
