Artist's Description
The Gravensteen is a castle in the North Belgian city of Ghent (or Gent) dating back to the Middle Ages. Its name means 'Castle of The Counts' in Dutch. The Castle grounds are rich in history with archaeological excavations proving that three fortified castles constructed from wood must have stood on the site of todays Gravensteen and the first stone castle was erected around the year 1000. The castle we see today has been beautifully restored to its former glory and attracts a huge amount of tourists, eager to take a step back in time. I hand blended a little texture with my original photograph to compliment the historic feel of this classic European Castle scene.
About Carol Japp
I'm a travel photographer and photo artist. I like to explore every nook and cranny of anywhere I visit and I'm always looking out for something unusual or unique, weird and wonderful, interesting and intriguing. For me, half the challenge is in the initial taking of the photo, the looking for something that catches my attention, getting that perfect composition, but the other half is in the processing, the tweaking and twisting and the addition of a little imagination to see how much detail I can bring to the surface and hopefully let the viewer see the same as I did when I took the shot. My images have been shot here, there and everywhere, mainly in the historic cities of Europe and with the occasional one taken in my own surroundings...

So much history , Carol.....here in the great southwest we might have something one to two hundred years old and get all exited about that.....the San Xavier Mission a bit older....but in Europe, one can go back to the Colosseum in Rome or Parthenon in Greece. Excellent capture as always.......FAV / LIKE
