I purchased three of these notebooks for gifts and I am thrilled with the purchase. Everything about the notebook is quality- the paper, the reproduction of the print and the way they were bagged for shipping. I will be back to purchase more soon.

Great Blue Heron. Ardea herodias.
Living by protected wetlands has many advantages and a few disadvantages. Sometimes coyote, snakes, skunks and mink in the backyard are cause for concern for my little dog, but the benefits outweigh those worries. The lakes and wetlands behind us are home to so many wonderful creatures. Many times while I am out walking my pup, I will see such beauty and will hurry home, grab my camera and hope it will still be there when I run back.
On this day, I was lucky this Heron had not moved far. In fact, at one point I chuckled to myself, that the bird and I were both standing so still waiting for our prey to make a move. I wanted to get an action shot, while he was trying to grab lunch! They famously wade slowly or stand statue-like, stalking fish and other prey in shallow water or open fields. Then with lightning-fast thrust of the neck and head they stab with their strong bills. Their very slow wing beats, tucked-in neck and trailing...

Karen, this is a stunning capture with a wonderful reflection and description. I wonder what happened that made the huge boulder split. f/l
Karen Adams replied:
I could have written a funny caption that made it seem the Heron had done something to cause the boulder crumbling!!! Darn! a missed opportunity for humor!
