I started painting when I turned 40. It seemed like a good time to embark on a new venture and I had always wanted to paint. In my jobs as a biochemist and then a homemaker I hadn't made much time for artistic interests, so painting was a completely new and very different challenge. My husband gave me an easel, canvases and paints for the big birthday, and I got started. Sources of inspiration have always included a family farm in western NC and country scenes I see on the back roads and trails of my bicycle trips.
